Socialising the puppies!

I will from the puppies are born and until they are ready to move to their new homes do a lot of work to make sure that the puppies are used to being handled by people and that they are used to all the noise and things going on in a regular family. They will go on trips to explore the city, driving and will also get to meet many types of people and other dogs. I choose very carefully the dogs I allow the puppies to meet, to ensure positive experiences that will last a lifetime. As soon as the puppies are old enough they will go outside with me and their mother every day to play in the garden and we will go on little trips at (fx.) the forrest, the beach, preschool and dogtraining.

The first 3 weeks of the puppies lifes is mainly taking place in the puppycrate where they were born. Their time passes with eating and getting cleaned from their mother, getting warmth and safety by their siblings. I will take the puppies up to me every day so they get used to the smell of me and feels safe being handled.

When the puppies are 3 weeks old, the real socialisation begins. Their senses starts to develop and they begin to walk. They now get out of the puppycrate and will be introduced to my other dog who is happy to help raising the little ones. From this time and until they move to their new homes it is very important that they get used to people - all kinds of them. We will have a lot of visitors children, elderly, short haired, long haired, men with beard and without. The puppies must learn that people are a part of their world and to be safe being around them, no matter what they behave like. They will also everyday be taken out with me seperatly to get used to being shortly apart from their mother and siblings and get experiences on their own.

When they are 5 weeks old they start to get out of the house. They will try drive in the car at least 6 times before they move away form home. While driving the puppies will be together in a soft cage that they know and feel safe in. They have, of course, their mother with them to show them that driving is not dangerous at all. They also have to get used to a lot of different sounds that they will possibly meet. We go in the city where we will meet a lot of other people and dogs, carhorns, busses driving close by and doorbells from the shops. We go to the beach to walk in the edge of the water and in the forrest to hear the birds sing and find all the smells of dire. Besides that we will go to visit a farm and say "hello" to cows, horses, cats and chickens.

If possible I will arrange to go to the school and to a home for elderly, that is fun for both kids, old people and puppies.

This careful process, to socialise your future dog is started with me, but it is very important that the puppy, after leaving from me continues to get a lot of positive new experiences. I will advice and guide you when you come to visit me and the puppies and after you take the puppy home ill be available for help at any time of the day if any questions or problems comes up.

Buying a puppy from my kennel.

As well as you expect to get a healthy and well-socialised puppy from me I expect some things from you too!

I expect that the puppy will have taken x-rays for hip-dysplasia when old enough (1 year), that you'll show it on at least 1 FCI approved dogshow, that it will me mentaldescribed if possible in your country and that you attend at least 1 puppy training course.

All of this to ensure that the puppies I sell is healthy and correct as described in the breed-standart both regarding looks and personality. To know these things helps me to ensure a good quality in my future work with breeding English Cocker Spaniels.

When the puppies are 7 weeks old they will me puppy-mentaldescribed from an autorised person of the danish kennel association. I do that to make a last impression of the puppys personality and to help find the best puppy for you and your family. After this test the puppies will be "given" to the family that fits them the best. I will of course take your wishes a lot into consideration but in the end it must be both in yours and the puppys best interest that you are a good match. This has shown to be a good way to avoid "mistakes" where the puppy would later have to either be put to sleep or placed in a new family cause your personalities were maybe wrong for eachother, it would be a shame for you, because a dog is always a beloved member of the family, and it would be even more a shame for the dog.

Potential buyers that wants to "work" with their dog (fx.: obedience, hunting, agility, schweiss) will be prefered.

I also expect to be allowed to follow the puppy growing up, through mails, photoes and if you are interested meetings, to see how it develops.

I will be planning events for the puppies from my kennel at least once or twice a year, where we can meet, talk, train and see how the dogs are doing and if they live up to your expectations.
